Joji Ilagan-Bian Career Center Foundation, Inc. (JIBCCFI), the leader in creating training programs leading to successful career recently partnered with American Hospitality Academy (AHA) for a work-training experience in the United States.
AHA a world renowned training facility based in the US just had an agreement with JIBCCFI to give the latter’s students a training experience in the US through its Global Campus Program. It has become one of the worlds most well-known and respected providers of structured training and exchange program opportunities with premier American hospitality industry partners. More than 1000 students from 100 academic institutions in the United States and foreign countries participate annually in the Academy’s cultural exchange and training programs
The AHA is designated by the United States Department of State as a sponsor of an Exchange Visitor Program. JIB-AHA strives to create well-rounded hospitality leaders of the global future. This is done through three program components of Practical Training, Education and Cultural Exchange.
This program offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the food service operation within the hospitality industry. It aims to provide understanding on the procedures and daily operation of the hotel guest service operations. Students are also trained in a supervisory role of one of the largest operations in the hotel industry, housekeeping.
AHA championed the first Global Hospitality manual SERVLEAD, written in collaboration with universities around the world. AHA provides the SERVLEAD Program to all participants in its Passport to Culture Program. SERVLEAD transcends international boundaries and bridges academic gaps by offering the first global certification program that recognizes and rewards proficiency in both leadership and cultural awareness skills.
SERVLEAD is produced and distributed by the American Hotel and Lodging Association and is endorsed by the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant Institutional Education (I-CHRIE,) the Hotel and Catering International Management Association (HCIMA,) and the International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT).
The cultural awareness section of the SERVLEAD manual is designed to foster an appreciation of other cultures and a respect for individual differences. By learning to embrace diversity you will be developing a crucial skill that is an essential trait found in all great leaders. Portions of the content used in the cultural awareness section are used with the permission of the Peace Corps World Wide Schools along with the U.S. Department of State’s Peace Education Journals.
In today’s rapidly growing hospitality industry, as companies vie to keep up with the competition, the standards of service for hospitality industry associates also continues to rise. As a result, more and more employers now state that positive work ethics are more important than a potential associates previous work experience and/or qualifications.
“Filipinos are well-known for their great hospitality... we just lack the opportunity to show it to the world” said Joji Ilagan-Bian - JIB Chair, as she mentions on to why she took time to look for partners abroad for her school’s HRM students.
The program is open to all fourth year students taking Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management can speak fluent English and willing to take on the challenge.
Successful applicants will be deployed to various hotels and resorts accredited by AHA within United States such as Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and Marco Island, Florida. These areas are 100% tourist oriented and will give them the opportunity to experience a different side of the United States. Most of these locations are family and resort destinations, which makes them perfect to learn more about the hospitality industry.
It is the aim of the Joji Ilagan Career Center – Global Campus Program is to teach and inspire cultural understanding within our programs and the travel and tourism industry worldwide. It is JIB-AHA’s belief that when we begin to understand our differences we soon discover our similarities, fostering a spirit of global camaraderie and goodwill. – Joji Ilagan-Bian
The program is designed to promote cultural understanding, especially in our current global hospitality industry. Due to the diversity of cultures involved within the program it creates awareness to the students about their differences and similarities.
